FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

AUDITIONS

1 - How do auditions work?
Auditions will be split into rounds which will each involve slightly different challenges. Those auditioning for the orchestra will have to get through three rounds in order to take part in the musical itself, whereas vocalists will need to get through nine rounds. This is because we need to be absolutely sure that we cast the correct performers in each round and there are a few additional things to consider when selecting singers.

At the end of round three all accepted instrumentalists will become a part of the musical orchestra, and all remaining singers will also be guaranteed a place in the cast. From this point on we will be concentrating on cast members into specific roles.

In order to audition, audio (or video if you prefer) recordings of your audition pieces must be submitted to the correct email address (either vocal [at] twilightmusical.com or orchestra [at] twilightmusical.com).

2 - Can I still audition if I miss the first round?
Unfortunately not. It would be unfair to those who had been through previous rounds to allow new participants to enter at a later date.

3 - How long will auditions last for?
The first round will be lasting for one month as this is the point at which we will be listening to the most auditions. Each of the following rounds will last for around two weeks each. More specific dates will be posted shortly.

4 - What kind of song should I use in my audition?
You can perform pretty much any kind of music, though we recommend that you try to pick a piece that exhibit your talents as best as possible. A full song will give us more of a chance to hear your performance, though we have chosen not to introduce a time limit.

5 - Do I have to use backing tracks when I record?
You don't have to, however if you do choose to use a backing track please make sure that it isn't loud enough to drown you out.

6 - Can I audition for the orchestra and a singing part?
As long as you have the time to take part in both sets of auditions and recordings, then yes you are able to do so.

7 - Do Zenith members have to audition too?
Yes. The band members who wish to perform in the musical are also auditioning. Other band members have chosen to stick to helping with the organisation of the musical instead.

8 - Who are the judges?

9 - How soon will characters be assigned?
Although throughout the entire audition process the judges may be making notes concerning who they think would do well in a specific role, nothing will be finalised until we reach the ninth round.

10 - How do I find out my vocal range?

The main vocal ranges are as follows:
Soprano -High female voice
Mezzo-Soprano -Middle female voice
Contr(alto) -Low Female Voice
Tenor -High Male Voice
Baritone -Middle Male Voice
Bass-Low Male Voice

Your voice is determined by where your strongest tones, or notes lie. If you have access to a musical instrument and know enough about it to produce a few recognizable notes, the easiest way to see where your current range lies is to sing along with that instrument and see which notes out of those you can produce are strongest and most comfortable for you.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

11 - Will the musical make any money?
We are not planning to make any profit from this musical, and if anything does ever end up being made from it, it will be donated to a charity voted on by the final cast and orchestra members.

12 - Will I have to travel anywhere to take part?
Everything is being completed online, so no you will not have to travel anywhere or meet up with anyone you do not know.

13 - What do I need to take part?
All you need to take part is your voice (or access to the instrument you intend to play), a clear, working microphone (or web cam, if you prefer), access to the Internet, an email account, and some kind of recording software. We recommend Audacity, which is a free audio editor.

14 - How do I use Audacity?
Tutorials may be found on this page.

15 - Is this musical official?
Unfortunately not. The musical is entirely fan-made.

16 - Is it going to be anything like High School Musical?
Absolutely not. Though we are fond of some of the animated Disney movies we are definately not fans of their "live music", and write in a completely different style. We don't wish to offend those that do like these movies, but they are not to our taste at all.
